Medical Payments Coverage (Med Pay)

Definition

Coverage that pays for medical expenses incurred by the insured or passengers regardless of fault. On auto policies, it covers medical bills for the policyholder and passengers after an accident. On homeowners policies, it covers medical expenses for guests injured on the insured property without requiring a liability claim.

Growing Up Covered

In Zach’s Words

Med Pay is the no-questions-asked medical coverage on your policy. In auto insurance, if you or your passengers get hurt in an accident, Med Pay helps cover medical bills regardless of who caused it — no waiting for fault to be determined. On your homeowners policy, it works similarly for guests who get injured at your home. Your neighbor's kid falls off the swing set? Med Pay covers their ER visit without them having to sue you. It's small, it's cheap, and it keeps things from escalating.
