Loss of Use
Definition
Coverage that pays for additional living expenses or lost rental income when a covered peril makes the insured property uninhabitable. Also known as Coverage D on a homeowners policy or Additional Living Expense (ALE).
In Zach’s Words
“If a fire makes your house unlivable, loss of use pays for your hotel, meals, and extra costs while it's being fixed. You shouldn't have to eat ramen in a motel just because your kitchen caught fire. This coverage keeps your life somewhat normal while your home is being repaired.”
