Coverage Types
Hired & Non-Owned Auto
Definition
Commercial auto liability coverage that protects a business when employees use personal vehicles for business purposes (non-owned auto) or when the business rents or hires vehicles (hired auto). This coverage applies to liability claims arising from accidents during business use and is typically added as an endorsement to a commercial general liability or business auto policy.
In Zach’s Words
“Here's a scenario that catches business owners off guard: your employee runs to Office Depot for printer paper in their own car and rear-ends someone. Guess who gets sued? Your business. Hired & Non-Owned Auto covers your company when employees drive their personal cars for work or when you rent vehicles. If you have any employees who ever drive for work — even just running errands — you need this coverage. It's one of the most overlooked and affordable coverages in commercial insurance.”
