Certificate of Insurance
Definition
A document issued by an insurance company or broker that verifies the existence of an insurance policy and summarizes key coverage details including policy limits, effective dates, and named insureds. Commonly abbreviated as COI.
In Zach’s Words
“A COI is your proof-of-insurance card on steroids. When a client, landlord, or general contractor says 'prove you have insurance,' this is the document you hand over. It shows what coverage you have, how much, and when it expires. We can usually get these out same-day.”
